CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: UN Women support to youth participation to the CREA reconference in Kathmandu

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: UN Women support to youth participation to the CREA reconference in Kathmandu, 10-12 April 2019

UN Women will support the participation of young representatives of Nepali Civil Society to the CREA reconference in Kathmandu on 10-12 April 2019
In 2011, more than 300 feminists, artists, activists, allies and policy makers came together, in Kathmandu, Nepal at CREA’s landmark Count Me In! conference to address violence against marginalized women. Over three days, Count Me In! surfaced the myriad of issues facing trans and lesbian women, women with disabilities, and sex workers in South Asia. Eight years later, against the backdrop of a rapidly-changing socio-political landscape, CREA is organizing its second global conference – reconference- rethink | reimagine | reboot in Kathmandu, Nepal from 10-12 April 2019.

reconference- rethink | reimagine | reboot addresses today’s most challenging socio-political issues and their intersections with feminism, art and technology.

The reconference is a global conference of feminists, artists, activists, and allies who come together to;

• Rethink politics and resistance

• Reimagine change and transformation

• Reboot our struggles and movements

This year, the conference will cover the following themes: abortion, consent, disability, environmental justice, pleasure and danger, sex work, sexual and gender diversity, sports, and technology.

UN Women Nepal will coordinate, facilitate and fund the participation of young Nepali civil society representatives of all genders to the reconference. UN Women will cover the registration fee, travel from outside of Kathmandu, and accommodation. Thus, we invite applications from interested and motivated candidates. We especially encourage applicants representing different parts of Nepal and with diverse backgrounds. To be eligible applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Be 30 years of age or below

• Have past or current experience in social activism

Applicants are expected to submit:

• Expression of motivation (for example a letter, video, recording or poster)

• Brief summary of past and current engagement in social activism including how you expect to use the experience of participating in the conference

• Filled application form

Funded applicants are also expected to participate in an interaction workshop in Kathmandu of 13 April, facilitated by CREA and UN Women.

The conference will be held in English. Translation to Nepali will be available for key sessions.

Send your application to Palmu Sherpa [email protected] and Radhika Pariyar [email protected] by 10 March 2019.
